River Restoration Projects

Work on projects to help restore the river and its tributaries to a cleaner and more sustainable condition. For example, help plant trees along a creek in Sperryville, pick up litter in Fredericksburg, or restore an oyster reef with recycled shell in Urbanna.

  • Tree plantings
  • River cleanups – Super easy to do independently anytime as well! See litter, grab and toss it.
  • Oyster reef restoration
  • Living shoreline installation
  • Green infrastructure installation

FOR Education

In 2023 we educated over 12,300 student throughout our watershed from summer camps, community programs,  field trips, and other hands on learning programs! We hope to inspire future generations of river stewards to continue our efforts of protecting the river.

  • FXBG Nature Preserve Maintenance
  • Assisting with summer camps
  • Supporting educational outreach programs in our community

Outreach Events

Be the friendly face that inspires others to make a difference. Throughout the year, we participate in community events to share FOR’s work on behalf of the river. Help us prepare, promote and participate in these events.

  • Connect with the general public on environmental issues
  • Share FOR & river related education materials
  • Display and sell merchandise or other fundraising items
  • Prepare event supplies
