VOLUNTEER – FXBG Oyster Shell Recycling Pick Up

We have an amazing growing oyster restoration program and we need your help sustaining it!
We partner with local restaurants across the watershed to recycle their oyster shells. We are looking for a volunteer or two to help FOR staff with our weekly Thursday oyster shell pick up from Port Oysteria. The volunteer would meet FOR staff at FOR’s FXBG Office (3219 Fall Hill Fredericksburg, VA 22401) and support moving barrels of oyster shell weighing up to 100lbs with a dolly.
Pick up time is flexible but must be done prior to 11am.
The shells you’d be collecting will end up being used in our ‘spat on shell’ program where baby oysters (aka spat) are released on the shell in a tank. From there, we place the shell with spat on them into our oyster reefs to increase our oyster population!
