Update: The groundwater study has been released.

Last week, Friends of the Rappahannock called on Governor Abigail Spanberger to publish the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s groundwater study required by Senate Joint Resolution No. 25 (2024).

The report has now been released, giving Virginians access to important information about the future of our groundwater resources.

The study comes at a critical time as communities across eastern Virginia face increasing demands on groundwater supplies and ongoing drought conditions.

We appreciate the publication of this important report and look forward to working with state leaders, local governments, and partners to ensure its recommendations help guide sustainable water management across the Commonwealth.

Protecting Virginia’s water resources requires sound science, transparency, and collaboration—and this report is an important step in that process.
