Friends of the Rappahannock is hosting two days of professional learning on June 25th and 26th. Day one includes Project Learning Tree’s Green Jobs and Southeastern Forests & Climate Change, and will be co-led by The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. Registration is separate. Day two includes Explore Your Environment.
What to expect: Project Learning Tree’s Explore Your Environment is PLT’s flagship curriculum. The K-8 Activity Guide includes 50 hands-on, multidisciplinary activities to connect children to nature and increase young people’s awareness and knowledge about their environment. Activities include detailed step-by-step instructions, academic correlations, time and material requirements, and corresponding student worksheets with green career connections. This supplementary curriculum is designed to develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Learn more about PLT Explore Your Environment here.
Who should attend: Explore Your Environment: K-8 Activity Guide offers educators a wide variety of engaging, hands-on activities, organized into grade bands: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Many activities also suggest variations for doing the activity with a different grade level or audience.
Event location will be held at Float on Farms. We will have water and bug spray, but please be prepared with a reusable water bottle, your own lunch, clothes appropriate for hiking outdoors, possible change of clothes if you choose to play in the river during breaks. *Rain Location is the George Washington Carver Agricultural Research Center located at 9432 N James Madison Hwy, Rapidan, VA 22733.
