VOLUNTEER – Tomorrow’s Trees Program!

September 16, 2024 - November 30, 2024

Tomorrow’s Trees brings the excitement of an acorn-driven scavenger hunt to an important restoration challenge: planting trees for clean water!

Tomorrow’s Trees is a people-powered seed collection initiative that creates future forests for healthy rivers and streams.
Volunteers from all over the Rappahannock River region can independently gather tree seeds from their communities anytime and gift them to state nursery farms and FOR’s very own tree nursery!

Drop Off your acorns and tree seeds! HERE is your collection guide, all you to know to start collecting seeds! And HERE is a printable list of types of seed needed to be collected and tree ID guide.

Collect seeds using paper or sandbag breathable material, not plastic! Paper bags can be found in seed drop-off bins or bring your own.

  1. Collect Seeds – one bag for one tree!
  2. Deliver seed-filled bag(s) to designated drop-off bins
  3. Label your bags with seed type and drop-off date (labels in the bin)
  4. Fill out the sign-out sheet in the bin and you’re good to go! All this info is SUPER important

*Not sure what type of tree? Include a leaf or a small twig with your collection.

Drop Off Bin Locations:

*CLICK the drop-off site’s name above to find more specific info on the bin site

Get your steps in, grab some friends, your favorite volunteer team, or practice your tree ID solo this fall!!

The seeds you collect and donate will be nurtured and transplanted for use in FOR’s and the states’ riparian tree buffer plantings that help keep our river healthy!
