Description

This opportunity is for adults (18+) who want to make a direct impact on the next generation helping FOR Education Staff during the field trip season for K-12 students!

We will cover four of our most popular field trip rotations, but will spend the most time on macro-invertebrate sampling and water quality testing. We welcome all levels of understanding of topics as we always need support during our field trips!

Clothing: Please bring many layers! We will start indoors and then spend about 1.5 hours outdoors. FOR will provide chest high waders for stream sampling for those that want to go in the river.

Things to bring: Snacks, refillable water bottle, and a refillable coffee mug.
*We will provide coffee and fruit to start the morning.

Requirements: Must be able to stand for over one hour and walk on uneven terrain, and show proof of criminal background check prior to volunteering at first field trip ($20 for Volunteers for Commonwealth of Virginia).

A general schedule of the day will be as follows:

  • 9:30-9:45AM Check-in, Coffee, Introductions
  • 9:45-10:20AM Field Trip Basics
  • 10:20-10:40AM Station Rotation Overview
