Description

On April 23rd, 2026, join us at the University of Mary Washington’s Seacobeck Hall in the Weatherly Wing (Room #145)  for a presentation and discussion with UMW Professor Eric Bonds about his work to bring transparency to the public regarding information about the costs and benefits of data center development.

The data center industry has often sought to downplay or conceal its environmental impacts, including its use of water. Local governments have often been willing partners in secrecy, keeping information hidden from the public at the companies’ behest. This inspired Eric to try to shine a light on the industry’s water use in our part of the state. As a result of his work, multiple water service agreements have been released, helping to shine a new light on data center water usage.

Find out what he has learned and accomplished along the way! And explore insights from Eric Bonds on water commitments to data centers at this blog.
