FOR is a wonderful organization that works tirelessly to protect our beautiful river and ensure that future generations are able to enjoy it as we have.

Jeremy LaRochelle, UMW Professor and FOR Member

The Rappahannock River and its fall line, is the reason Fredericksburg exists. It is certainly the reason our family has chosen to live here. The river is a beautiful place to relax, play, and gather. Friends of the Rappahannock helps ensure that the river will continue to be our most significant local natural resource, now and into the future. Plus, they throw the best party of the year, RiverFest!

FOR has helped me become the teacher I am today. Over the last nine years I’ve had the opportunity to partner with them on so many different watershed projects. They’ve given me the opportunity to show my students parts of the Rappahannock watershed they may never have seen otherwise.

Carolyn Reiner, Rappahannock High School Educator

I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Friends of the Rappahannock on multiple developing projects in Culpeper County. The collaboration between Culpeper County and FOR has resulted in several successful grant applications this year as well as a number of innovative partnerships that are currently underway. Working with Friends of the Rappahannock has given us access to technical expertise that we would otherwise need to outsource. The work that Friends of the Rappahannock is undertaking in Culpeper County is truly inspiring.

Laura Loveday, Culpeper County Parks and Rec

I love working with FOR because I get to break down that wall between the individual and community. The people at FOR are always a joy to work with and I really believe in their mission to protect our waterways.

Phoebe Martin-Cole, FOR 2023 Volunteer of the Year Award Winner

Learning about oyster reefs, water quality testing, and various Chesapeake Bay fish was a lot of fun during the Bayquest boat trip on the Coan River. Eating raw oysters while learning why they were overfished was very interesting. Seeing how fast the oysters cleaned the aquarium was incredible. Catching the fish and learning about them was cool as well, especially since we got to take some back with us to live in our aquarium

Arwen Kintz, Student

As a long-time supporter of FOR, it was important to incorporate my love of the river into my professional life. The work that FOR does in the headwaters creates and improves the health of the Rappahannock from the mountains to the sea; leaving a pristine resource for generations to come.
