RAINSCAPES PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT: Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) has developed the Rainscape Retrofits program to reduce the amount of unwanted contaminants (mostly nutrients and sediments) and excessive quantities of stormwater reaching the Rappahannock River and tributaries by assisting homeowners with managing runoff on site. The program works to implement a high volume of low-tech, low maintenance residential scale, best management practices to encourage infiltration.
The Backyard Rainscaping Program is a partnership between Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR), the Rappahannock Rapidan Regional Commission (RRRC), and the Virginia Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners. The program is a resource sharing approach designed to share the cost of materials, construction/implementation, provide technical assistance with project assessment and best management practice (bmp) design, and work alongside the homeowner to provide volunteer labor through the Rappahannock Restore Corps.
