Nothing stays our dedicated volunteers from their efforts to keep our river beautiful. In the top photo, members of the UMW men’s and women’s cross-country and track teams take a break on a windy, 20-degree day they spent removing litter from Ficklen Island. The group included, from left, Chris Sandoval, Amanda Patterson, and Jillian Weisbeck. In the right photo, members of the UMW COAR Environmental Team clean up a waterway near the FOR home office. From left are Haley French, Adam Schoene and Meredith Palumbo. Thanks to volunteers like these students, we were able to support 20 River Cleanup events in 2015, in six different counties throughout the watershed. We targeted 23 different cleanup sites, with more than 400 volunteers from over 50 different companies, organizations, community groups, faith-based organizations, Scouts, families, and friends.  We removed approximately 15,000 pounds of trash and debris from the watershed. Well done, FOR volunteers!
