As River Steward for Caroline, King George and Spotsylvania Counties and State Policy Coordinator, my job is to serve as a local advocate for the river. I’ll help manage several regionally focused restoration programs, provide high value environmental education programs to local schools, and engage communities for a cleaner, more healthy Rappahannock River.
My focus this first year will be working with partners and volunteers to plant more trees, increase the amount of acreage of turf covered by urban nutrient management plans, and cleanup litter in and along the Rappahannock River and tributaries. I will also help lead several interpretive trips and participate in special events throughout the counties.
My background is in environmental education and ecosystem restoration. For years, I’ve specialized in plants native to the Chesapeake Bay region. In my free time I enjoy roaming the forests in the region with my family and dog Layla, and paddling the river while casting and watching other people catch fish.
