HIRING: Summer Camp Counselor

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) is seeking one motivated college student or recent graduate with energy and enthusiasm for river education and outreach during Summer Camp!

You will have the opportunity to be on the water everyday and enjoy watercraft such as kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, tubing and STEM activities with summer campers! Campers range from rising 1st to rising 8th grade. To ensure safety we only allow 12 campers per camp each week.

This position is part time, with a flexible work schedule of approximately 25 or more hours per week. Must be located near Fredericksburg, Stafford or surrounding counties.

The period of employment would be from approximately May 31st until July 29th 2022 with the week of July 4-8th off. Approximate working hours include 8:30am-1:00pm with some days from 8:30am-3:00pm. This is not an overnight camp.

Compensation: This position is eligible for $12-$15 per hour depending on experience.

DUTIES INCLUDE
  • Actively support participants in recreation and leisure activities

  • Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being

  • Work outside in all weather conditions

  • Help maintain the schedule for camp participants

  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program

  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program

  • Must be able to carry heavy loads and travel hilly and uneven terrain

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks outside in various climates

  • Clean, maintain, and ensure proper use of camp facilities and equipment

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills

REQUIREMENTS
  • Current college students, recent graduates, or graduate students are eligible to apply

  • Able to lift 50lbs

  • Extremely organized, outgoing, and personable

  • Comfortable being outdoors in all weather

  • Able to pass a background check

  • Valid driver’s license required
