Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) has a variety of programs that help enhance community awareness of the condition of the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Recently FOR partnered with localities and neighborhoods to install storm drain medal-lions as a reminder to allow “Only Rain Down The Drain.” By installing these medal-lions, community members are reminded that anything and everything which enters storm drains will drain into local streams and eventually the River and Bay.
We are especially concerned with fertilizer runoff, which brings excess nitrogen and causes eutrophication in our watershed. Trash, sediment, and other chemical pollutants also threaten the vitality of the watershed.
If you are interested and would like to install the medallions on your own, we can provide them for you to pick up. Or, if you are interested in an FOR staff member or intern installing the markers for you, feel free to contact FOR Programs Manager Bryan Hof-mann, bryan.hofmann@riverfriends.org
We extend a special thank-you to Stafford County Public Works and the City of Fredericksburg Public Works for their support in protecting our shared watershed.
