Head to the Northern Neck to witness the on-land operations of Rogue Oysters, a working oyster farm, and see what goes into the day-to-day life of an oyster farmer while learning about the sustainability of oysters. You will learn about an innovative new method of growing oysters that is being created by the owners of Rogue Oysters and have the optional opportunity to make your own oyster cage with supplies provided by Rogue Oysters.
The tour entails an overview of everything from taking care of juvenile oysters with a visit to Rogue’s nursery and all the in-between steps leading up to when the oysters head to a restaurant to make some lucky diner happy. Rogue Oysters will demonstrate how to build cage kits and allow for some volunteers to participate in cage-building. There will be an oyster shucking demonstration with limited tasting and a lively discussion on how clean water is important to the ecology of the Rappahannock River and the economy of the Northern Neck.
Rogue Oysters is a proud partner of Friends of the Rappahannock. We are excited to be sharing their knowledge and experience with you at this event!
