Oyster Shell Bag Construction – CANCELED

July 14, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join Friends of the Rappahannock in helping to create oyster shell bags that will be used to build living shorelines in Urbanna Creek this month! Living shorelines are essential for protecting the health of the Rappahannock River and its tributaries, and oyster bags are a key component.

These oyster bags will be constructed at Kellum Seafood in Weems, VA. Once put together, each bag will weigh approximately 25lbs. Jobs include shoveling shell, moving bags, and preparing empty bags to be filled. All ages are welcome, but this is most appropriate for volunteers 15+ years old. FOR will provide pop-up canopies for shade, coolers with cold water, and snacks. Please plan to bring your own lunch, water bottle, weather appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes or boots, and sunscreen.

You will be able to meet at the Fredericksburg office at 8am to ride to Kellum Seafood in Weems ( 96 Shipyard Ln, Weems, VA 22576) or meet us at the work site. If you are meeting us at the worksite, please arrive no later than 10 am. We will be done working no later than 3pm and back in Fredericksburg by 5pm.
