Outdoor Learning Lab at the River’s Edge: Week 6

Join Friends of the Rappahannock environmental educators for interactive lessons at our nature preserve. Each program has different time slots. Register for the program at the day and time of your choice below.

Survival in the New World: Grades K-5

What skills did the first settlers of Jamestown need to survive their first winter? Join us to see if you have what it takes. Visit the northwest extent of John Smith’s exploration of the Rappahannock, comparing Virginia resources now and then. Through tasks and role playing, simulate the Jamestown settlers’ effort to survive and fulfill responsibilities to the Virginia Company and the King.

Minimum age to participate is 5 years old.

The following VA History and Social Science SOL objectives are covered during this program: VS.1, VS.2, VS.3, VS.4, VS.6; USI.1, USI.2, USI.3; 2010 Science SOL’s: 4.5, 4.9, 5.7

Fires & S’mores: Grades K-8

Learn methods to build a campfire. Then, make S’mores and eat them!

Minimum age to participate is 5 years old.
