Exploring Lake Mooney – Paddle Trip

July 11 @ 9:45 am - 12:00 pm

$24 – $30

Join FOR River Steward Adam Lynch for a guided paddle tour of Lake Mooney a.k.a Rocky Pen Reservoir, the newest water supply reservoir in Stafford County. This morning float begins and ends at Lake Mooney boat launch at Lake Mooney Park. This trip is flat water only. Minimum age is 12 years and some paddling experience is helpful.

Did you know that most of the water in Lake Mooney actually originated in the Rappahannock River? Lake Mooney is a 520-acre reservoir that has 33 miles of shoreline. On average, 40 million gallons of water enter the lake every day from the Rappahannock River. Discussion topics will include the history of Lake Mooney, its water supply system, its natural systems and ecology, and its water quality.

Meet at Lake Mooney boat launch at Lake Mooney Park at 9:45 a.m. to check-in. Expect to return to the boat launch by noon.

Your ticket purchase includes kayak, paddle, and life jacket. Attendees bring snacks, sunscreen, water bottle, insect repellent, and wear a hat.

  • All equipment will be sanitized prior to the event. Equipment will be laid out 6 feet apart before check-in.
  • Masks must be worn during check-in. If you would like assistance getting into your boat during launch, masks must also be worn then.
  • Maintain a distance of 6 feet at all other times – during boat launch, while on water, and at the end of trip.
  • Please print and bring this waiver with you – or you may email it to Adam by 3 pm on July 10th – so you don’t have to sign it during check-in.
