Culpeper River Cleanup and Tree Planting
November 9 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pmFree
Join Friends of the Rappahannock and the Town of Culpeper as we join forces to remove trash and debris from local streams and plant native trees at Rockwater Park. Mountain Run is a large tributary to the Rappahannock River and runs right through downtown Culpeper. Like most streams in the area, Mountain Run receives lots of runoff from roads, parking lots, and buildings, every time it rains. This stormwater brings litter of all shapes and sizes along with many other types of pollution. River Cleanups are a great way for local volunteers and community groups to help keep their waterways and public spaces clean and safe for recreation and drinking water.
Native trees are nature’s best defense against stormwater runoff and pollution entering trees. We will be planting trees throughout the park to improve habitat, protect water quality, and to beautify the park.
We will be meeting at Rockwater Park at 9:30am to check in for the event activities and pick up supplies. You will be assigned a cleanup or planting team when you check in.
All participants must sign a waiver which can be found HERE
FOR will provide gloves, bags, litter grabbers, shovels, and all other materials for the projects. If you have boots or waders, bring them!
We will also have water, snacks, and pizza lunch for all the participants thanks to support from the Northern Piedmont Community Foundation’s Culpeper Foundation Fund.
