Friends of the Rappahannock joined forces with the Chesapeake Bay Governor's School in Bowling Green, Virginia to install a Living Shoreline on the banks of the Rappahannock River in Port Royal Virginia.

Litter comes in all shapes and sizes from mico-plastics we cannot see up to abandoned cars and port-a-johns! We find tires, shopping carts, bicycles, grills, lawn chairs, and a myriad of other lost or discarded items all over the watershed. This stuff is generally easy to find but takes time, effort, and money to clean up.

This project began when FOR was contacted with an opportunity to partner with Grymes Memorial School, a local school in Orange County. Grymes is located adjacent to Laurel Run, less than a mile from the Rapidan River, which is the largest tributary to the Rappahannock River.
