RAINSCAPES PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT: Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) has developed the Rainscape Retrofits program to reduce the amount of unwanted contaminants (mostly nutrients and sediments) and excessive quantities of stormwater reaching the Rappahannock River and tributaries by assisting homeowners with managing runoff on site. The program works to implement a high volume of low-tech, low maintenance residential scale, best management practices to encourage infiltration.
Student Stream Team is a program that works with local students in the classroom and out in nature to offer schools enhanced environmental education activities and on the ground restoration projects that protect and restore the Rappahannock River.
Friends of the Rappahannock and Volunteers installed another Rainscape Retrofit in Lake of the Woods to help protect the Rapidan River. Thanks to funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and a partnership with the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission, Friends of the Rappahannock was able to install another Rainscape Retrofit in Locust Grove, Virginia.
